  ABSTRACT

In this talk, I will describe Sony's vision for creating compelling robot platforms, primarily through the popular "AIBO" entertainment robot. Sony has had many years' experience creating commercial robots for the home, and has recently unveiled the latest AIBO model, ERS-7, as well as QRIO, a small humanoid robot. Aside from home use, these robots constitute a compelling platform for research and educational purposes, primarily due to the OPEN-R architecture -- a unique design that is extensible and adaptable to many different types of robot configurations and needs.
